This test was
performed in January/February 2008
(courtesy of
Programmifree.com) on about
46800 samples (containing viruses,
worms, malware, trojan and other
garbage). These samples were
unpacked in a folder, and there have
been scanned from the various
Antivirus apps.
Each antivirus
was updated before the test.

Comparing these results with last
years, we can note that the percentage of detection
changes very little; the free AVs perform quite
well, especially AOL Mcafee 2008 (EDIT: AOL MacAfee
is not free anymore). Avira Antivir free, the best
free antivirus in last tests, remains in a good
position. The comparison
between Clamwin and MoonSecure is very
interesting, since MoonSecure is based on ClamWin
engine. There must be anyway a big difference among
them, since the detection ratio is quite different
(81% against 76%).
As you probably know, ClamWin is an antivirus with a
distinctive importance, since (just like Moonsecure)
it can be used for commercial purpose and not only
for personal purpose. Comodo
Antivirus 2.0 performed better than last year, but
it is still far from others.
